SRINAGAR, Aug 16: Death toll due to COVID-19 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 542 as 15 more people died due to virus in past 24 hours. The number of positive cases reached 28,470 as 449 fresh cases of virus were reported today. Pulwama district reported five fresh deaths followed by two deaths each in Srinagar, Budgam and Bandipora districts and a death each in Baramulla, Anantnag, Shopian and Ganderbal districts. So far 501 Corona Virus patients have died in Kashmir with the number of deaths in Jammu being 41. Srinagar reported 129 fresh cases of COVID-19 followed by Jammu 58 cases, Bandipora 43 cases, Baramulla 42 cases, Budgam 31 cases, Kupwara 27 cases, Ganderbal 25 cases, Pulwama 24 cases, Anantnag 23 cases, Kathua and Samba eight cases each, Poonch and Reasi seven cases each, Rajouri six cases, Shopian five cases and Udhampur & Doda three cases each. The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 449 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 100 from Jammu division and 349 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 28,470. Also 15 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division. Moreover, 267 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 97 from Jammu Division and 170 from Kashmir Division. Out of 28,470 positive cases, 6,985 are active positive, 20,943 have recovered and 542 have died; 41 in Jammu division and 501 in Kashmir division. Out of 7, 93,537 test results available, 7, 65,067 samples have tested negative till date. Additionally, till date 4, 13,305 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 41,723 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 6,985 in isolation and 46,380 under home surveillance. Besides, 3, 17,675 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 6,915 positive cases, 1,689 active positive, 5,053 recovered, 173 deaths; Baramulla has 2,429 positive cases, 599 active positive, 1,742 recovered, 88 deaths; Pulwama has 2,053 positive cases, 436 active positive, 1,577 recovered, 40 deaths; Budgam has 1,787 positive cases, 518 active positive, 1,229 recovered, 40 deaths; Anantnag has 1,772 positive cases, 352 active positive, 1,382 recovered, 38 deaths. “Kulgam has 1,697 positive cases, 199 active positive, 1,467 recovered, 31 deaths; Shopian has 1570 positive cases, 97 active positive, 1,448 recovered, 25 deaths; Kupwara has 1525 positive cases, 379 active positive, 1,113 recovered, 33 deaths; Bandipora has 1,426 positive cases, 675 active positive, 731 recovered, 20 deaths and Ganderbal has 919 positive cases, 447 active positive, 459 recovered, 13 deaths,” reads the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 1,965 positive cases, 763 active positive, 1,173 recovered, 29 deaths; Rajouri has 786 positive cases, 132 active positive, 651 recovered, three deaths; Kathua has 663 positive cases, 108 active positive, 554 recovered, one death; Udhampur has 649 positive cases, 98 active positive, 549 recovered, two deaths; Ramban has 624 positive cases, 29 active positive, 594 recovered, one death. “Samba has 567 positive cases, 162 active positive, 404 recovered, one death; Doda has 337 positive cases, 40 active positive, 295 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 328 positive cases, 86 active positive, 240 recovered, two deaths; Reasi has 277 positive cases, 153 active positive, 124 recovered and Kishtwar has 181 positive cases, 23 active positive, 158 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 28,470 positive cases in J&K, 5,520 have been reported as travelers. The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory. |
