Jammu, Aug 25: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) celebrated festival of tree planting `Van Mahotsav’ at Main Campus, Chatha on 25th of August, 2020. The ceremonial planting was done by Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, who was the chief guest of the occasion. A sapling of Chinar was planted by the Chief Guest in front of the Students Centre. Dr. J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu presided over the function, who planted a sapling of Peela Amaltas. The chief guest laid emphasis on planting more trees in the city of Jammu to make it look beautiful and green in the coming years so as to mitigate the climate change effects and protection of the environment. Vice Chancellor, while addressing the officers, faculty members and students, desired that massive efforts should be made for greening the campus and thereby fulfilling the tree planting target of the state government as well as the Govt. of India. Mr. Avtar Singh, Sarpanch Chatha panchayat was also present on the occasion. Dr. R. K. Gupta, Director Research; Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Education, Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr. Deepak Kher, Director Planning, Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean FVSc&AH, Dr. SEH Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare, Rajesh Talwar, Registrar, Faculty members and students planted saplings of Bottle brush, Yellow trumpet bush, Eucalyptus, Silver Oak, Kachnar, Sukh Chain etc. on the occasion. Van Mahotsav is annually organized by the Division of Agroforestry, SKUAST-J. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. SEH Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences. |
