CDS Rawat talks tough | | | Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat talking about keeping military option against China open is a significant development. India and China have held several rounds of military and diplomatic talks in the last two-and-half months but no significant headway has been made for a resolution to the border standoff in Eastern Ladakh. Nearly 20 Indian Army soldiers attained martyrdom while fighting with the Peoples Liberation Army of China in Galwan Valley in June this year. China didn’t disclose the casualties suffered by it but there were reports that as many as 35 Chinese soldiers were also killed in the clash. The CDS talking tough is a warning to China that it has to mend its ways and status-quo has to be restored. If China remains adamant there is every possibility about it facing the heat from this side. After the outbreak of COVID-19 the international community has taken a serious note of China resorting to expansionism. At present China stands cornered from all the sides as no one wants to trust the country, which has behaved abnormally since the outbreak of pandemic. During the past three months India has strengthened its armed forces in Ladakh region and the troops are in the state of full preparedness. If China refuses to relent then it may have to face the war and the CDS has made it clear by stating that military option against China is open. After the clash in Galwan Valley, India has imposed a ban on the Chinese products and many online applications have been stopped. China during the past months has faced immense losses as India was a very big market for its products. The international community has extended full support to New Delhi leaving China isolated. After facing stern action from the Government of India on different fronts, China seems to have softened its stand and has been reiterating that border issues can be resolved amicably. But there seems to be a lot of difference between the khatni and karni of China. With each passing day its becoming clear that the Chinese military is not serious about the resolution of the border conflict as it is resorting to “back and forth” negotiations while the Indian side has very clearly conveyed about its position on the matter. According to media reports the PLA has pulled back from Galwan Valley and certain other friction points but the withdrawal of troops has not moved forward in Pangong Tso, Depsang and a couple of other areas. |
