SRINAGAR, Aug 27: People got panicked, from past one day incessant rain has lashed Kashmir valley that has created flood like situation in various areas, while water level has increased in several villages of Hanjiwera Pattan.
Continuous rain from past one day has created flood like situation in most parts of the Kashmir valley and it is all because of the utter failure of the government to tackle Kashmir’s vulnerability to floods, bringing back haunting memories of 2014 when the Valley was hit by the devastating deluge, said Bashir Ahmad from Khore village of Pattan area.
He said the heavy rains from yesterday caused a flash flood like situation in several villages of Hanjiwera Pattan and submerged many houses in Khore Hanjiwera and adjacent villages along the Nallah-i-Ferozpora in Baramulla district last night.
Kashmir valley is witnessing heavy rains from yesterday, which wrecked havoc in the Khore Village in Pattan area that got submerged due to heavy rains as the water level of Ferozpora Nallah increases continuously, said sources.
They said that, water level in Nallah-i-Ferozpora have been increasing with no let up in rains, while as alert has been sounded in these villages who are residing along the Nallah as water level in Nallah-i-Ferozpora has been rising alarmingly following incessant rains, till the last reports came in.
Sources while quoting, SDM Pattan Syed Faheem as having said that, “ We have reached on the spot, the water level over Nallah-i-Ferozpora is rising alarmingly,Police, flood Control and revenue department and other officials are keeping a close eye on the situation, we are at your service, and in case of any need do contact us immediately.
SDM pattan in a general message for whole people who are residing along the Nallah-i-Ferozpora said that he is available 24×7 for his people, whenever they need my help I will be always there.
While the local residents of Srinagar said that, our water bodies like Jhelum, Wullar and Dal Lakes are shrinking owing to encroachment and siltation which means reduction in water holding capacity.
The dredging should have been an annual feature so that the water could have run smoothly, but there has been no effort from the government yet, said locals.
However sources from Uri have informed that, to some extent the rain had brought down the temperature from last night, but the downpour got heavier as the day progressed, light landslides occurred on many link roads in Uri.
They said that, during road widening from Mohra to Baaz, BRO has not given safety walls at many places due to which land slide and shooting stones occurred in Gingal Uri near Hawayi junction and with the result local are facing problems and there is threat to residential houses.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer, Irrigation, Flood and Control, Kashmir, Iftikhar Ahmed Kakroo Thursday said that there is no threat of flood as of now and that the water level in Jehlum is below the danger mark.
“We are monitoring the situation and as of now there is no threat of flood, ‘’ said Iftikhar Kakroo.
