Three militants killed, army major, two SOG cops injured in Yadipora Pattan | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Sept 4: Three militants were killed; an army major and two SOG men of police wing were injured today in an encounter in Yadipora village of Pattan area. A police official said that a joint team of army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) SOG, Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at Yadipora Pattan following inputs about the presence of some militants. As the joint team of security forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, the fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering an encounter. In the initial fire, an army major of 29 RR, Rohit Mehra was injured, and immediately he was evacuated to 92 base army hospitals Srinagar for further treatment, an official said. Though for some time, the operation was put on hold as some civilians were trapped inside the encounter site, and once they were rescued the operation was resumed again. Earlier one militant was killed after which, the hiding militants fired upon security forces in which two SOG cops were injured and both the injured were referred to Srinagar. However sources said that two militants were killed, while three security forces including army major and two SOG cops were injured, but all the injured personnel are said to be stable. Some arms and ammunition has been recovered by security forces at the site of encounter, however search operation was in progress till the last reports came in, sources informed. Police officials said that three militants were killed in an encounter, and their identification was not yet ascertained. It is pertinent to mention here that, On Sep 3, reports had said that, police arrested three militant associates of LeT outfit in Pattan area. Multiple nakas consisting of police and army were established, following information about the movement of some militants. Three suspicious persons were challenged who had tried to flee from the spot, but were apprehended by the security forces. All the three were working as over ground workers for LeT outfit in Pattan area, said sources.
