EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, Sep 4: Although the inquiry initiated by the Geology and Mining Department into the GPF scam of Rs 29 lakhs against the cashier and DDO has been completed but delay in action against the culprits has been creating resentment among the victims. Meanwhile Early Times has also accessed a video, wherein the cashier was being questioned by the investigating officer and he was seen unable to give satisfactory answers.
The higher authority had come into action after Early Times had carried out a story regarding GPF scam in Geology and Mining Dept. The initial reports as per complaints showed that 29 lakhs GPF of three persons were fraudulently withdrawn by DDO and cashier and till date the department has failed to find the answer that where the money has gone. After detailed investigation of the matter it became clear that an amount of Rs 29 lakh was only of those employees who have come forward to lodge a complain otherwise there is a big scam in the department which has nexuses of treasury as well as bank. There was well knit fraud going on in which GPF/arrears/ SLI policy funds of employees were withdrawn into DDOs official account and then later on given after lapse of 4-5 months to concerned and that too in cash and in some cases they were not given money. To utter surprise where that money went no one knows. One of employees who had applied for GPF for daughters marriage had to postpone his daughters marriage twice just because his hard earned GPF after being credited into DDOs official account is missing from account. Not only this if the record of past ten years is thoroughly probed it will lead to unearthing of one of the biggest frauds. The employees have urged authorities to order an investigation by crime.
When the Director Geology and Mining Department was contacted he informed “When the matter was brought to my knowledge, I immediately placed the cashier under suspension and the concerned DDO was attached and DDO powers were withdrawn. I ordered enquiry and a couple of days ago and got it completed on time. I shall be moving very strictly with exemplary action on the basis of enquiry findings,”
Meanwhile, Commissioner Secretary MK Dwivedi said that one of them was already suspended and the other attached and DDO powers withdrawn. Departmental enquiry has been concluded now and disciplinary action shall be taken soon.
