Former Mayor lobbies for chair of Secy Sports Council | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: A former mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation is lobbying for the post of Secretary J&K Sports Council even as complaints of corruption against the said person have been on rise. Sources said the said person, who is under scanner for alleged multi-crore corruption, has been doing the rounds in the corridors of power in New Delhi through his close aides. Source said the said leader is being helped by a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janta Party in Kashmir to get the chair of Secretary Sports Council. Sources said while some of the BJP leaders from Kashmir are lobbying for the same, the J&K government has told them that such an elevation would be a difficult. “First there are complaints of corruption and misconduct against him. Second, he is not from the sports background nor can any such politician be taken for such a post. It will be murder of democracy if such an attempt is made,” said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the former Mayor has told the BJP leaders that he would be working with honesty in future if he is given the post. Sources said the former Mayor is trying for the post of Secretary in the Sports Council as he finds his future bleak at the “political mandate he already enjoys.” “He is finding his future bleak in the ULB and thus wants to move on with some new position in power,” the sources said. It is pertinent to mention that apart from complaints of corruption, the said person has been under scanner for use of grossly indecent language on the social media. “He used most indecent language in public and thus how can you give such a chair such a person,” said the official. Despite repeated attempts the former mayor was not available for comments. |
