DSS hails Govt decision to include Dogri as official language | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: The 115 years old secular and non-political organization the Dogra Sadar Sabha J&K that was instrumental in getting the Dogri Language included in the 8th Schedule after years of struggle and agitation in the state and at National Level when it was included among the national languages on 22nd December 2003. The DSS got a shot in the arm when the Dogri language became one of the official languages in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The DSS members in one voice under their president Th. Gulchain Singh Charak hailed Centre’s decision to include Dogri along with Hindi and Kashmiri, Urdu and English as the five official languages of Jammu and Kashmir and to one major oppression that was not only against vast Dogri speaking population of all religions/faiths but also threatened the very distinct recognition of the large Dogra population of J&K. They include Muslim Dogras in Pakistan occupied areas and those who are settled in many other countries of Gulf and Europe. The last General of J&K State Forces Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal said that this was the biggest gift for all the Dogras in general and the members of this historic Sabha who took part in the vigorous struggle for the same in particular. “To speak in our mother tongue was our birth right” said Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, Vir Chakra a distinguished veteran warrior of J&K. |
