Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Sikh Naujwan Sabha, Gurdwara Sant Pura Danna Jammu staged protests against the exclusion of Punjabi Language from J&K UT official languages bill 2020 as passed by the government. According to the Census 2011, J&K has a Sikh Population of 1.87%, with Muslims being in majority whereas Hindus and Sikhs are the 2 significant minorities. As per the announcement made by Union Minister of State in PM, Dr. Jitendra Singh, 5 Languages are regarded as official languages namely Dogri, Hindi, Kashmiri, English and pre existing Urdu without any specification to Punjabi as there is a huge population speaking Punjabi in the J&K UT, which is their mother tongue since time very long. This act of Government has greatly affected the sentiments of all fellow Sikhs as their mother tongue is hugely neglected arid this is against the spirit of Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas slogan. India being greatest democracy in the world and the most secular country, has adopted this non secular action which is an assault on the identity and existence of Sikh community. Also, Punjabi is the 5th most spoken language globally but is shocking and sorrowful on our parts that it is not declared as official language in J&K UT. The Sikh Naujwan Sabha is not in the favour of official Languages Bill 2020 and supports District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu and various Sikh Organisations and strongly condemns this decision. |
