Temple land can’t be allowed to be used for non-religious purposes, asserts JKNPP | | | EArly Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party (JKNPP) activists today staged a protest demonstration, accusing the BJP led government of clandestinely attempting to implement its draconian plan to construct multi-level parking facility and commercial complex through its agency NHIDCL at age old Panjbakhtar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the heart of Jammu city. Scores of Panther activists spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Yash Paul, State General Secretary-JKNPP staged a thunderous protest demonstration in Jammu today. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that JDA VC’s statement that “Divisional Commissioner has been requested to verify the title of land expeditiously and any development by the government would be undertaken thereafter is completely unacceptable. As per the aforesaid statement, the JDA has clearly indicated that the final decision with regard to land in question would be taken only after the Div Com’s report. The JDA’s further clarification that multilevel Parking was being developed by Deputy Commissioner Jammu under Smart City Mission has also made the confusion worse confounded. The JDA, the JMC, the Div Com, The DC and the BJP must all understand that the land belongs to temple since centuries and would not be allowed to be used for commercial purposes”, said Singh. Further condemning the role of NHIDCL a concern of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, GoI for the construction of parking facility inside the temple premises, Harsh Dev Singh said the bizarre attempt of converting the shrine into a commercial hub had not only antagonized the nationalist Dogras but the entire Hindu fraternity as well. “The nasty proposition has triggered civil unrest. The entire issue has come up during the regime of BJP. There are reports published in a sect of media that NHIDCL along with some vested interests is desperate to usurp the prime land of the Panjbakhtar temple. Moreover, it was reported that the multilevel car parking would be developed under Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis and the commercial complex would be leased out to the successful bidder for 62 years from the appointed date under the terms of agreement. We will not allow the govt. to infringe upon the holy Shaivik land of the temple at any cost which not only is dearer but revered to us”, warned Harsh. |
