JKPSC gears up to hold exams from Sept 21 amidst COVID-19 fear | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: After remaining inactive for more than one year, the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has finally announced to restart the routine examination process from September 21. According to the details available with Early Times the JKPSC wants to ensure that enough safety measures are put in place at examination centers to keep COVID-19 at bay. These steps are being taken in view of the increasing infection rate in Jammu province. In view of the reports of violation of safety protocols during the conduct of NDA exams in Jammu on September 6, the premier recruitment agency in Jammu and Kashmir would have to put in extra efforts to maintain safety protocols at the examination centres. The JKPSC has announced to conduct various departmental examinations from September 21 and departmental examination of IAS probationers. In the same week the Commission has also decided to conduct other departmental exams such as Accounts Course Part (1) (SAC-1) departmental exam, Statistical Assistant Course Departmental Examination besides others. Sources in the JKPSC said that though for the IAS probationers exams, there would be less than three dozen candidates but for the other exams, the number of candidates would be much higher and in some cases, it is over 500 candidates. “Ensuring safety protocols at the examination centres remain an utmost priority of the Commission as well as a worry”, sources pleading anonymity said, adding that the Commission has to make extra arrangements in view of increasing infections. To ensure adherence of safety protocols, the Commission has decided to reduce the sitting capacity in the examination centres by 1/3rd of its original capacity. “The sitting arrangements have been finalized as per safety protocols, ensuring adequate space between two candidates, while sanitizers as well as masks would also be available at the examination hall”, an official said, adding that the Commission has already sought a declaration from the candidates about their health conditions. The official further said that if some of the candidates would have COVID-19 symptoms, he/she would inform the Commission in advance. “In each examination centre an “Isolation Ward”, will also be established in which those having COVID-19 symptoms or the history of COVID infection would be seated, while the supervisory staff would also be given the protective gear including PPE kits”, the official said, adding that due to infection threat the Commission has to make extra arrangements including hiring of extra halls as well as extra supervisory staff. The official further said that though the Commission has taken all measures to ensure safety but it also depends on the cooperation of the aspirants. “The Commission expects to follow the safety guidelines from the aspirants also, otherwise all the efforts made by the Commission would be futile”, the official said. |
