Alleging neglect, BJP’s Kargil unit raises banner of revolt against high command
9/8/2020 12:11:44 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 7: Major differences have surfaced in the Bharatiya Janta Party’s Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh unit with several office bearers of the organization from district Kargil sending a strong message to the party top brass over the alleged neglect of the workers from the region. It is reported that the block heads and executive committee members of the party's Kargil unit called an emergency meeting the other day to raise their voice against perpetual neglect of the activists from the district. Sources informed Early Times that in the meeting, the participating office bearers raising a banner of revolt against the party leadership passed a resolution demanding equal representation to the leaders of Kargil in the executive and working committee of the Ladakh UT unit of the BJP.
The leaders who took part in the meeting cautioned that if the party high command did not respond to their demand within two days, the entire unit would tender resignation.
“The leaders while cautioning the high command resolutely said that all the block presidents, booth presidents, executive members and ground level workers of the party would resign if the party high command failed to listen to their grievances in a time bound manner,” said sources.
Sources while quoting the disgruntled leadership of the Kargil unit of the BJP said, “We were taken on board neither consulted at the time when the leaders were nominated for the UT as well as the working committees. The leadership from Kargil was completely ignored by the party high command.”
Sources said that the dissention in the Kargil unit of the BJP has not erupted suddenly as the leaders from the district were annoyed over the alleged discrimination with them in the newly formed Union Territory unit, adding that the miniscule presence of the Kargil based leaders in the Ladakh set up of the party was not taken kindly by the local workers.
“Only 3 members are from Kargil out of the total strength of 22 in the working committee of Ladakh which was enough reason to fuel the rebellion from the party cadre belonging to this part of the Himalayan region,” said sources.
Sources said that the BJP unit of district Kargil in its grudge expresses that despite standing shoulder to shoulder with the party in adverse situations they were constantly ignored especially when the executive was formed.
“The district unit had already shot off a letter to the state head of the party but even after a month has lapsed, he did not deem it fit to respond. The purpose of passing the fresh resolution was to make the party high command aware of the ground situation viz a viz its demands and neglect,” said sources.
Meanwhile, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina did not respond to several attempts made by Early Times to contact him over the issue.
