Now Mufti relatives stay away from PDP! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: Even as the relatives of the Mufti family had been holding key positions in the corridors of power during the previous Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janta Party regime, they now seem to be staying away from the PDP. Recently, when the PDP leaders had planned to hold a party meeting, some of the senior leaders had posted their videos and pictures claiming that the police personnel, who provide them security didn’t allow them to move out of their homes. Senior leaders like Naeem Akhter, Khurshid Aalam and Waheed Parra had posted their videos on the social media. Interestingly, however, the relatives of PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti didn’t even post any such excuse to defend their absence from the party activities. Sources said two of the uncles of the Mebooba Mufti who had been calling the shots during the previous regime have been staying away from the party. Sources said for the last over a year since the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated, such relatives have been missing from the scene. “Are they a part of the party or have they left it like most others? This is the question which every next politician is asking in Kashmir,” said a political observer. It is pertinent to mention that most of the leaders left the party since the collapse of the PDP led government in 2018. While most of the senior leaders joined other parties, a few others had floated their own party. Barring a few young faces, the PDP looks void of the veteran faces. “But the relatives of the Mufti family had long been seen as the major support for the party. So where are they,” asked a political analyst. Despite repeated attempts, the PDP leaders could not be contacted for comments. |
