Take precautions to remain safe | | | Jammu region witnessing spike in COVID-19 cases has sent alarm bells ringing. The Rapid Action Tests being carried out by the administration have led to sudden spurt in numbers. Officials are stating that these tests are necessary to identify the asymptomatic COVID-19 patients who are the main source of infection and act as carriers. The spike in numbers is an ample proof of the fact that the pandemic has not ended and the virus is present everywhere. Lifting of lockdown doesn’t mean that the COVID-19 is gone. The restrictions have been lifted to allow economy from getting torn apart completely. Now, it’s for the people to take precautions to remain safe. Going out without wearing masks, attending marriage functions without maintaining social distancing and not taking care of the hand hygiene are major concerns. We cannot expect the administration to spoon feed us. To keep ourselves safe is our own responsibility. The Rapid Action Tests being carried out randomly have worked at many places across the country. Wherever RATs were conducted initially numbers increased but once the asymptomatic patients were identified and isolated it helped in containing the virus. It appears that J&K administration is working on the same lines. The experts in Jammu had issued many warnings about virus spreading within the community, now their predictions are coming true. The question people are asking is why administration took so long to start the random tests? And if the virus was present within the community why no steps were taken to create awareness among the people? Another apprehension people have is that whether there are enough facilities available to deal with the increasing number of cases? People have kept their fingers crossed and are hoping that the COVID-19 vaccine will come soon and it will act as a shield but the experts have predicted that nothing can be said about the efficacy of the vaccines which may appear may be within a month or two. These are difficult times and there is no place for complacency. Cases and deaths are rising so is the fear but that doesn’t mean that we have to give up and wait for COVID-19 to infect us. Taking precautions and remaining safe is in our own hands. Getting scared and terrified is not going to help our cause we have to remain firm on our resolve that we have to defeat COVID-19 and have to believe that sooner or later it will go. |
