Former NC MLA passes away, condolences pour in | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 7: A former National Conference legislator from Rajouri, Thakur Rashpal Singh on Monday died at Narayana Hospital in Katra Town of Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources here said that he was suffering from some medical issues. Singh, a resident of Sialsui Kalakote, has won elections several times from Kalakote assembly segment and was the leader of National Conference since decades. He has also served as Vice Chairman of State Kissan Advisory Board during Omar Abdullah led government in 2009-15. The officials said that former legislator developed some medical issues on Sunday evening and was taken to SMVDN hospital Katra where he breathed his last. The former chief minister and NC vice president, Omar Abdullah tweeted, "Early this morning I lost my senior colleague & former MLA of Kalakote Rajouri) Kr Rachhpal Singh to COVID-19. Only yesterday I spoke to him to wish him well. He was on oxygen support but in good spirits. Less than 24 hours later he is no more. My prayers are with his family." Meanwhile, NC provincial president, Devendra Singh also tweeted, "I'm deeply saddened to inform you that our senior colleague Th Rachpaul Singhji Ex MLA Kalakote left for his heavenly abode today morning at 2.30 am. Very Sad indeed. Great loss to all of us . RIP Thakur Sb. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family." J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina also wrote on microblogging site, "Deeply Saddened to hear the untimely demise of Thankur Rashpal Singh G, two time MLA from Kalakote Thakur Rashpal G was a Courageous leader who served the people with utmost sincerity. May God keep his soul in peace. My Heartfelt Condolences." AP president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari described Singh a thorough gentleman who would always work tirelessly to mitigate the sufferings of people of his constituency. “His demise is an irreparable loss not only for his bereaved family, friends and acquaintances but for a vast circle, he had developed in a cross section of the society,” Bukhari in a statement here. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the JKAP president prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to his near and dear ones to bear this irretrievable loss. Senior vice president of AP Ghulam Hassan Mir and vice president Usman Majid have also expressed deep shock and grief over the demise Rachpal Singh.
