‘Patronized’ Subject Matter Specialist holds on to chair of AEO Sunderbani

Early Times Report

SUNDERBANI, Sept 10: For the past three months or so the post of Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO) of the Sunderbani zone in the Rajouri district is vacant. The best part of the story is that the person who was posted as AEO has been promoted and he has not given the charge to anybody.
Early Times has learnt from sources that Ashwani Kumar Sharma who was posted as AEO Sunderbani was promoted as Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) and since then he has joined at his original place of posting at Agriculture Sub Division Nowshera. Despite all this the officer has not given the charge of AEO at his previous place of posting.
“The SMS is enjoying the patronage of some of the senior officers of Department of Agriculture and nobody has asked him for the reasons for not giving the charge to any officer at Sunderbani zone office. The move is a deliberate one and the officer wants to show his might to the others in the department,” said sources.
Sources said that few days back the SMS went on an official tour for four days and during this period the charge of AEO Sunderbani was assigned to some officer. They said that once the SMS was back he once again assumed the charge of AEO Sunderbani even though he has been promoted as SMS at Nowshera.
A senior office in the Department of Agriculture on the condition of anonymity told Early Times that since the issue has come into his notice swift action would be taken. The officer said that an AEO would be posted at the Sunderbani agriculture zone office very soon. Despite repeated attempts the SMS did not pick up the phone.
