Include Punjabi as an Official language in J&K : NAUP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 10: National Awami United Party National President Sandeep Singh expressed his great resentment for not including the Punjabi language as an official language of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In his Statement Mr Singh said that a large number of Punjabi-speaking people in Jammu and Kashmir were disappointed with Union government’s decision because Union Cabinet recently approved a bill (Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill 2020) under which Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir except Punjabi Language. It is pertinent to mention here that Punjabi language, is widely spoken by the locals in different parts of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and almost in all districts. The decision of excluding Punjabi language is not only unfortunate but also discriminatory one for a large Section of our Society and our Party leaders have decided to put pressure on Union government to include Punjabi language in the recent official Language bill.He further said that our Party strongly appeal to Hon’ble Prime minister of the Country Narinder Modi and Union Cabinet and urging that the exclusion of Punjabi Language from Bill was a great injustice to the Punjabi language and particularly to Sikh community of J&K.The exclusion of Punjabi language from the drafted Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill 2020. is highly condemable, Union leadership must take decision for Punjabi Language be included in the drafted bill before presenting it to the Parliament of India. |
