MC Kathua claims to execute works of Rs 70 lakhs actually executed by Housing Board
10/9/2020 12:16:09 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Oct 8: The Chairman of Municipal Council Kathua on Thursday claimed to have started execution of works to the tune of over Rs 70 lakhs in a Housing Colony, which are actually being executed by the Housing Board and not by the Council.
According to sources as well as videos circulated in the social media platforms as well as news portals, the Municipal Council Chairman could be found as kick starting blacktopping works in the Housing Colony, being developed in Shiva Nagar area of Kathua city.
The Chairman claimed that the MC Kathua has been executing the blacktopping as well as construction of lanes and drains work in the colony, which costs over Rs. 70 Lakhs. He was accompanied by the Ward councillor as well as another senior politician from Kathua, who remained silent during the event. The Chairman went on to claim the work being done by MC, while explaining about some other works, which were actually done by the Council and falls in its jurisdiction.
According to sources, the said Housing Colony is actually developed by the Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board and the work of the colony had started in the 90’s. The construction of lanes, drains as well as other works is the responsibility of the Housing Board, which is developer of the colony.
“It is the Housing Board, which has been executing the works to the tune of over Rs 70 lakhs in the Colony in Shiva Nagar Kathua and Municipal Council Kathua has nothing to do with the funding part for the project, as wrongly claimed by the MC Chairman”, a senior official of the Housing Board said.
The MC Chairman went on to claim that the Council has been involved in overall development of the city but residents in several areas have been demanding construction of lanes and drains but time and again the MC took the excuse of funds’ scarcity for execution of works. “The Housing Board has to start the blacktopping as well as construction of lanes and drains as per their routine but when some office bearers from MC got the air, they rushed to claim over the work as being executed by them, which is a white lie”, an official said.
A senior official of JK Housing Board pleading anonymity said that the Board officials have already expressed their reservations with the MC Kathua for wrongly claiming the works of the Board as theirs.
“All the ongoing works have been done by the board and not by the MC Kathua”, the official clarified , adding that MC Kathua has nothing to do with funding part.
