Patil’s visit to J&K: Mir trying to sideline his detractors in party | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 8: J&K Congress Committee chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir is making all efforts to ensure that only his loyalists will meet Rajni Patil, who is first time visiting the Union Territory (UT) after her appointment as incharge of J&K unit of the party. As per the itinerary of visit of the AICC J&K incharge, Rajni Patil will reach Jammu on October 10 to address Kissan Sammelan. After the Sammelan she is scheduled to meet various delegations including office bearers of the frontal organizations. She is also scheduled to visit Srinagar also to get feedback about the functioning of the party in both the regions of J&K. Sources in the Congress said that PCC chief Mir was trying his best to make it sure that majority of his supporters will meet Patil to give an impression that he has a strong grip over the party and frontal organizations. “Mir has already given directions to his loyalists to seek time for meeting with Patil, who will take feedback about functioning of the party during the last six years in J&K”, sources said and added that during her first visit to J&K, Patil will try to meet every faction and group within Congress. Sources said that some leaders of the J&K Congress have recently expressed their reservation over style of functioning of PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir so his (Mir’s) loyalists would try that only their supporters will meet Patil to give an impression that everything is right in Congress. Sources said Mir’s endorsement of the ‘Gupkar Declaration’ has not gone well with Jammu based Congress leaders because the crux of the same declaration was Kashmir centric. “After Pakistan’s endorsement of the ‘Gupkar Declaration’ party is facing embarrassment in Jammu region”, a senior Congress leader said on the condition of anonymity. He said that Jammu based party leaders would try to convene newly appointed J&K incharge that toeing extremist lines of the National Conference and PDP would be proved counter-productive for the party in Jammu region. |
