EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Nov 6: A government ration dealer along with his relatives of village Pangai in Tehsil Thanamandi are taking undue benefits of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in violation of guidelines depriving the poor of the benefits.
Sources told Early Times that a financially well-off ration dealer of village Pangai, is in possession of Antyodaya Anna Yojana card and taking all benefits under this scheme. Not only this, he has allegedly provided the benefits to his relatives also in contravention of the rules, they added.
Although this scheme has been meant for poorest of the poor families yet some people are misusing this scheme for their benefits due to which the deserving people have been deprived of the scheme of the same area.
They further said that the ration dealer has provided many other benefits to his relatives, which are covered under this card. “The name of rich families of the areas are reflected in the list while the poor have been kept out of this benefit,” they alleged further adding that despite a number of complaints to the concerned authorities about this violation, no action has been taken against the ration dealer.
Moreover, the same complaint was also lodged with the Government Grievance Cell but nothing has happened till date. When contacted the AD Food and Supplies Dept, said that the issue doesn’t pertain to him as the Tehsildar, TSO and other officers issue the card.
Meanwhile, Naib Tehsildar Thanamandi, Qamar Din feigned ignorance of the matter and said that he would look into the matter.
