Early Times Report

REASI, Nov 17: The residents of this district especially those associated with the transport sector are suffering like anything since the office of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Reasi has virtually been turned defunct due to some administrative issue.
Sources told Early Times that ARTO Reasi Ramesh Kumar Samotra was few months back transferred to some other place with Rajesh Kumar being appointed as ARTO Reasi in his place. However, the transfer could not materialize and the officer managed to get the transfer order stayed. “The ARTO Reasi went to Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) and challenged his transfer. The CAT paid heed to his request following which the transfer was stayed. But this did not go well with Rajesh and a war of words broke out between the two. This led to chaos and anarchy at the ARTO Reasi office,” said sources.
Sources said that the account of ARTO Reasi was deactivated and as such the functioning of the office got affected to a great extent. Due to the deactivation of the account of ARTO Reasi renewal of more than 500 driving licenses has been pending and the same has compounded the problems of driving license holders.
“Fitness certificates are also waiting to be renewed while as there is a delay in the issuance of the route permits in the entire district. The locals of the district are suffering like anything and they had appealed the senior officers of the concerned department to intervene in the matter so that there is an end to the problems,” said sources.
Samotra told Early Times that his transfer has been stayed by the CAT and said that the official account of ARTO Reasi has been stayed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). He said that he has written 11 applications to the department appealing the higher ups to activate the account so that the functioning of the office is not affected.
The transporters of the department have appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the concerned advisor to intervene in the matter and solve the issue so that they do not suffer anymore. A senior officer of the department on the condition of anonymity told Early Times that some action in near future would be taken in the matter.
