Fearing defeat no senior Cong leader ready to contest DDC elections | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 18: Fearing defeat no senior Congress leader is ready to contest the forthcoming District Development Councils (DDCs) elections in J&K. Instead of joining the electoral battle to capture prestigious DDCs, senior Congress leaders are only projecting names of their loyalists for these crucial polls. While as BJP has fielded former ministers, ex-legislators and other senior leaders for the DDCs elections, not even a single Congress leader has so far come forward to contest the elections. Highly placed sources in the party said that party leadership has asked some senior Congress leaders to contest these prestigious elections to give a tough fight to BJP but none of the leader has volunteered to fight these elections. Interestingly Congress is fighting these elections with ‘seat adjustment’ with Gupkar Alliance even then senior Congress leaders could not muster guts to join electoral battle. On the condition of anonymity, a senior Congress leader told The Early Times that instead of taking on BJP party leaders were giving lame excuse to avoid elections as most of these leaders have disconnected from the grass root due to their arrogant style of working. “Most of the Congress leaders are drawing room politicians who have no connect at the ground level so most of the senior leaders are hesitating to face public”, he said and added that by fielding unknown candidates Congress was ready to give walkover to BJP. As reported earlier, BJP has already fielded two former ministers including Sham Lal Chowdhary and Shakti Parihar for these elections besides some former legislators. Sources said that after BJP fielded its former ministers for these elections, Congress leadership has reportedly asked some senior leaders to contest elections but they bluntly refused. |
