Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 22: A ration dealer of a fair price (FPS) of Godhar Panchyat in Rajouri district is allegedly ‘stealing’ ration from the fixed scale by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA). “Earlier the FPS was on the name of an ex-serviceman, but eyeing Sarpanch’s post a decade ago the father transferred the licence on the name of his son”, said an official of FCS&CA. “Unfortunately, rather than serving the purpose of holding FPS they filled their own pockets by indulging in corrupt practices. Both father and son on the basis of FPS raised huge assets including houses at various places including Jawahar Nagar Rajouri, Saranoo Rajouri, their native village Godhar, shopping complex at Jawahar Nagar, Saranoo and house at Jammu”, the official said, adding that the empire has been created by the ex-service man turned FPS owner in a remotest village of Dhangri block in Rajouri district. “He never distributed ration to the people as per the fixed scale, the people in remote areas are not aware of the most of the government schemes due to poverty and illiteracy,” the official said that several complaints against the FPS have been received in the past but the dealer stalled all the inquiry initiated against him. “Apart from keeping a cut on scale of ration, it has been learnt that he is also supplying underweight ration to the people by manipulating weighing machines. He misbehaves frequently with the consumers without any reason and acts like if he is distributing ration on his own. Son runs FPS and father owns a flour mill in the same complex where pilferage of unprocessed grains (wheat) goes unabated,” he said, adding that he never distributed unprocessed ration to the people, and same is being sold to the helpless villagers at open market rates. When contacted Assistant Director FCS&CA Mukhtar Ahmed said, “I will check his online distribution of food grains and take action as per rule if found guilty.” |
