Another Kashmir businessman under Hawala scanner! | | | Early times Report
Jammu, Nov 22: A few weeks after a businessman from Srinagar came under the scanner of the investigating agencies for Rs 100 crore transactions, his alleged business partner has also come under the radar. Sources said after the businessman hailing from Rajbagh, his partner from Lal Bazar has also come under scanner. Sources said through the preliminary investigations, the investigation agencies have come to know that the duo were business partners in establishment of a multi-crore mall in the heart of Srinagar. Sources said the land records of the mall were also being examined. Sources said the intelligence agencies are probing if the two businessmen had any business establishments overseas as well. Sources said the businessman from Lal Bazar locality has been under the scanner for evading income tax returns and that he could be close to some high profile people of Kashmir. The businessman has come under the scanner after the Income Tax Department sleuths conducted raids against a Kashmir-based group engaged in various businesses. During the raids the sleuths had seized cash and jewelry amounting to over two crore rupees from the residence of the businessman in Srinagar and elsewhere from his establishments. Sources said the Income Tax Department was examining that if some portion of valuables seized during the recent raids belonged to businessman from Lal Bazar. “What is also being probed is that if they jointly run business in south India as well,” said a source privy to the investigations. Sources said the business firms under scanner deal with real estate business apart from ventures of handicrafts and carpets. While over a dozen premises were raided in Srinagar one establishment was also raided in the national capital. It is pertinent to mention that the Narendra Modi government has launched a major crackdown against people having minted fortunes disproportionate to their known sources of income in terror infested Kashmir. The intelligence agencies apprehend hawala funding in such cases stating that such “minting of money was legally not possible.” Despite repeated attempts the businessmen was not available for comments. |
