Alliance in danger as faulty seat sharing formula triggers rebellion | Gupkaris fail in first litmus test | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 27: The seat sharing agreement between the parties of Gupkar alliance has opened up a Pandora’s Box with widening wedges likely to take an ugly shape any time soon. Sources within the conglomerate told Early Times that the ground level workers of PDP and National Conference are annoyed with each other over the way in which seats for the DDC polls were distributed by the leadership in hurry and without any compunction. Sources informed further that the annoyance of the workers can take an apocalyptic shape anytime with alliance entering in a very dangerous phase. It is highly possible that the alliance could break up due to the seething differences emerging between the political parties. “It is becoming evidently clear the parties that cannot even run a municipality together are not capable to steer the ship to the shore in Jammu and Kashmir. The theatrics that they had enacted earlier have fallen flat and failed to impress anyone. On the contrary, workers are up in arms against the leadership of their own parties,” said a functionary whose party is one of the constituents of PAGD. “There were already issues on seat sharing in the amalgam and I was crestfallen the moment I saw NC has fielded its candidates on 13 out of fourteen seats in Budgam constituency. This is not good for the alliance. I appeal to the alliance head to review decisions on seat sharing before the differences grow deeper,” PDP leader Ghulam Nabi Hanjura said in a press conference in Srinagar on Thursday. He said that workers have always been sincere to PAGD and are ready to offer any sacrifice for the common cause for which the alliance was formed. He said that he walked out from the PAGD meeting when 4 seats in Beerwah, 2 each in Budgam and Chadoora and 1 seat in BK Pora was allotted to NC. He said despite strong objection by PDP, NC took two seats in Surasyar block while Pakhapora was allotted to PC “I strongly objected and walked out of the meeting. I told them there should be two seats each for the two parties.” Meanwhile, the senior PDP leadership is also contemplating to bid adieu to the alliance soon after the polls are over. “We will have a common ideology but if polls are held anytime soon, PAGD will prefer to contest separately and wouldn’t go in a joint way. This experiment has failed and we do not want the polls to act as a spoilsport in the entire scenario. We will concentrate on future. Let bygones be the bygones,” said a PDP leader. National Conference as per the reports also has discussed in detail the issues emerging due to the seat sharing agreement and how the workers on ground are disgruntled with the party over the fiasco erupting at present. |
