No follow-up of patients tested positive during RAT exercise | Violation of MHA guidelines | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 27: Making a mockery of the repeated guidelines issued by Union Home Ministry to fight COVID-19, the J&K administration is not taking deadly Coronavirus seriously as authorities are brazenly involved in conducting just ‘cosmetic exercise’. With much publicity, administration had introduced random Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) to control spread of the virus but in reality this exercise is nothing but an attempt to befool the people. Three months back random RAT was started but those involved in these testing are not following positive patients. Except declaring the patient positive, the health department is doing nothing to keep a watch on the same patients. Recently in the Gandhi Nagar area, two family members were tested positive during random RAT testing. During the test the couple was tested positive. Except declaring them positive, officials of the health department did nothing to follow them. “During the random testing I along with my wife was tested positive. Those involved in testing did nothing after our test. We were directed to go for home quarantine”, the patient told Early Times, adding, “We remained confined in a room in our house for two weeks but not even a single official of the health department visited our residence to follow our case”. This is not an isolated case. Same is the story of the majority of the patients who were declared positive during RAT testing because officials involved in this exercise are taking it casually. Majority of the patients declared positive during this exercise are getting treatment on their own because officials of the health department never bothered to contact them again after the test. Authorities had claimed that RAT testing will be a game changer in disease containment efforts in the Union Territory. The RAT gives results within 15 minutes as against the RT-PCR, which normally takes at-least one to two days, creating difficulties both for the travellers and the administration due to the provision of mandatory quarantine for incoming passengers till their test results come out. |
