Liquor, cash seized ahead of 4th phase DDC elections | | | ASIF IQBAL NAIK EARLY TIMES REPORT
Doda, Dec 6: Police seized liquor and cash from a Tata Sumo vehicle in Doda District’s Marmat area last night. The consignment is being transported in the vehicle allegedly for distribution among the voters. As per the details available with Early Times, following the recovery of the liquor and cash from a vehicle which is reportedly hired by a particular political party for electioneering, police registered an FIR No. 218/20 against the driver who was identified as Pawan Kumar beside also seized the vehicle which is presently under the custody of Police Post Goha. Soon after police action, the pictures of cash and liquor bottles went viral on social media with a claim that the cash and liquor was meant for luring voters in the upcoming DDC election in Marmat where polling is going to be held tomorrow. The seized vehicle according to the locals was seen in DDC campaign rally for BJP candidate few days ago. According to the police sources, last evening a Tata Sumo bearing Registration No JK 14F-8708 was found to be carrying one bottle and 26 liquor pouches (250ml). However, police sources added that there was no cash in the vehicle and the same is only a rumour. It is pertinent to mention that the polling for District Development Council Elections Phase-IV in Marmat Constituency is going to be held on Monday. The seizure of liquor and alleged cash raises many eyebrows as the administration is caught napping to play an active role in holding free and fair elections. |
