'Despite LG's efforts to curb corruption, bribery still rampant in govt offices' | | | ishtiyaq ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 6: Although corruption has declined in the government offices after Manoj Sinha took over as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, but still many people believe that unfair practices are rampant in the clerical sections of the government offices. They (citizens) alleged that most of them still pay bribes to low rung officials as 'it is the only way to get their work done'. "If you don't give bribe your file will never reach the higher ups," alleged a teacher who had come to submit his +2 file in the head office. A doctor told Early Times that they have to pay bribes to the low rung officials even to get their leaves sanctioned. "Paying them is the only way to get the work done," the doctor claimed. People believe that after LG Manoj Sinha has taken over the reins of the J&K UT, the scenario has improved but still lot needs to be done. On several occasions the government has identified corrupt employees and relieved them of their duties. "The practice needs to continue in order to reduce the incidence of corruption and set a precedent of intolerance against bribery," said a senior citizen. |
