Time To Introspect
12/24/2020 11:41:10 PM
Two former ministers of Bharatiya Janata Party losing the recently held District Development Council (DDC) elections is an indication that people are annoyed with the leaders of the saffron party who ignored a common man when they were in power.
Both the BJP stalwarts tasting defeat should serve as an eye opener for the former ministers, who reaped benefits of power along with Kashmir centric Peoples Democratic Party. These leaders acted as second fiddles and never mustered courage to oppose the anti-Jammu policies of the PDP.
The BJP leaders who were a part of the coalition headed by then chief ministers late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti went out of way to keep the Kashmir centric leaders happy.
The PDP-BJP coalition headed by Mehbooba Mufti took many decisions that were against the national interests but the BJP ministers just turned a blind eye towards everything to ensure that their friends in Kashmir don’t get annoyed.
Despite all odds, BJP has retained its ground in Jammu but the ones who held the important positions in the erstwhile regime should sit back and introspect. If their two former colleagues can lose it means that they can also end up on the other side of the fence whenever the assembly elections are held.
When the BJP leaders were in power they had totally forgotten the people who had reposed faith on them by voting for them. In Jammu region BJP has won six districts in the DDC polls and the people who have voted for the party are hoping that their day to day issues will be resolved.
The candidates who have won the DDC elections should learn from the mistakes that have been committed by their predecessors. If they follow their footsteps they will end up losing their credibility. The candidates who have won the DDC elections have to lead from the front and set an example for their successors so that no one stays away from a common man and works for his welfare.
The local BJP leaders should learn from J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, how he has handled the administration.
He has ensured that the government officials don’t shriek work and remain available for the common man 24x7.
The newly elected DDC members irrespective of their political affiliations should keep their doors open for the common people, by doing so they can win the trust of the masses, who during all these years have got drifted away from the system.
