JAMMU, Dec 24: Despite clear guidelines of specified time period for completion of road projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojna (PMGSY), there are still hundreds of such projects, which have been facing undue delay in their completion. Sources told Early Times that as per guidelines which envisage that completion of the road projects should be within a period of nine months from the date of issue of work order but not exceeding twelve months in any case. However, the time limit has been exceeded up to eighteen months for completion of work on roads in hilly areas. They further said that over 250 road projects under PMGSY, only few dozen road projects were completed within the stipulated time wherein around 90 road projects including Jammu (6), Udhampur (19), Ramban (5), Rajouri (19), Ganderbal (7), Anantnag (12), Baramulla (5), Kupwara (14) and Leh (3) which were taken up for execution under Phases IV to IX were completed with delay ranging from 2 months to 8 years. They further informed that over 40 road projects for connecting 30 habitations including Udhampur (14), Ramban (5), Rajouri (2), Ganderbal (2), etc. taken up for execution under Phases V to X at a sanctioned cost of Rs 190 cr, on which expenditure of Rs 80 cr was incurred could also not be completed within stipulated period due to land dispute, non-clearance from forest department, etc. “Even after a delay of more than seven years from the date of allotment, these roads were not completed. Areas targeted to be connected remained unconnected,” they alleged. |
