Srinagar on alert as Pakistani terror group on prowl | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 24: A group of Pakistani terrorists may have infiltrated into the summer capital of Srinagar and could be on prowl here -the intelligence agencies have learnt -putting the security apparatus, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir Police on alert. Sources said the intelligence agencies have credible inputs that a group of three-four highly trained Pakistani terrorists, are hiding in the summer capital and trying to carry out a major attack. Sources said the intelligence agencies have inputs that the recent three deadly attacks carried out on security forces in the summer capital in less than a month were masterminded by the same foreign terrorists. In one of the recent attacks on the Srinagar highway on November 26, two Army Jawans were martyred and the terrorists had managed to flee as the Army exercised maximum restraint in opening fire at a public place lest it causes civilian causalities. Sources said there was every possibility that the attacker was a Pakistani terrorist who may have taken shelter in Srinagar. In a separate attack, a grenade was lobbed on the paramilitary CRPF in Hawal area of old City. In another attack, bullets were fired on police in nearby locality. A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that there was every possibility that the group was active “predominantly in the north Srinagar areas and trying to establish sleeper cells.” “The inputs suggest that a few of them are in Srinagar but we’re fully prepared to foil nefarious designs of such elements,” said an official on the condition of anonymity. It is pertinent to mention that a top Pakistani terrorist Saifullah, along with his accomplice, who was also a top Lashkar commander, were killed in Barzulla area of Srinagar on October 12, 2020. As per police SaifUllah was involved in three back-to-back major attacks on security forces in Nowgam, Chadoora and Kandizaal here. Till now, this year, Srinagar has witnessed around a dozen encounters in which atleast 18 militants have been killed. |
