Haazir Ho! BJP to summon Jammu leaders for 'poor' performance in DDC | | | Early Times Report jammu, Jan 1: Even as the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded District Development Council elections by winning 74 out of a total of 280 seats, the BJP top brass is seemingly not convinced with the performance of its leaders especially in Jammu province. Sources said the BJP top leadership in New Delhi is "not at all" happy with the "two digit" performance of its leaders in the winter capital region and that the party looks ahead to summon a few of them to the national capital for a "brainstorming on reasons that may have led to fall in vote share." Sources said the BJP is likely to summon three-four of its leaders, including one from Kashmir, to discuss the reasons behind falling vote share of the party, especially in Jammu. Political analysts said "BJP's high seat share needs to be read with its poor strike rate." "While the BJP has ended up with the largest seat share in these elections, this needs to be read along with the fact that it also contested the maximum number of seats. This is because the two major regional parties in Kashmir, the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined the PAGD with five other smaller parties in J&K. A comparison of strike rates (seats won as a share of seats contested) shows that the BJP is behind four constituents of the PAGD," the political analysts are understood to have told the BJP leadership in New Delhi. A senior BJP leader told Early Times that it was a matter of concern for the BJP that why couldn't the party "sweep Jammu region when in the previous Lok Sabha polls the party won all the three seats from there." "BJP's vote share has been very low in Kashmir while it enjoys one-third to a majority support in Jammu region and this is something which the party wants to introspect," said a source in BJP national leadership on the condition of anonymity. It is pertinent to mention that the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration or PAGD which is an amalgam of seven parties won as many as 110 seats and independents won 50 seats. Though the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad appreciated the BJP for having emerged as the single largest party, the BJP looks ahead for replies to questions for defeat elsewhere. Sources said one of the BJP leaders from Kashmir was also likely to be summoned to know that reasons for his failure even on his own seat in Kashmir. Despite repeated attempts the BJP leaders were not available for comments. |
