SRINAGAR, Jan 3: The employees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) are making headlines after they were allegedly found roaming without wearing masks during “Mask up Srinagar Campaign”, which was initiated last week by the SMC. Whereas one of the employees was found wearing a mask in incorrect manner setting a wrong example for residents of Srinagar. As per the reports, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation had initiated Mask up Srinagar Campaign from December 1, however, during the campaigning few employees were found without the mask, while others had put the mask in wrong way. While as the photo of SMC employees roaming without mask had gone viral on social networking sites, with users questioning the intention of employees over the campaign. Ironically, the employees were seen roaming next to senior officials of SMC, who paid no attention, what so ever to their fellow colleagues. “What is this, on one hand, the SMC employees are urging citizens to wear a mask, which of course is a nice initiative, while on other hand their employee is roaming without mask or wearing it in the wrong way. It is height of hypocrisy,” said one of the user. SMC created awareness among the masses for almost seven days from December 26 and urge people to wear face masks to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. The Corporation had also set January 01st as the deadline for wearing the face masks and had announced that anyone found violating the norms would be fined in between Rs 200 to Rs 500. While as per the local reports, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has collected more than 30K fine from violators during the “Mask up Srinagar Campaign”.
