In contact with 2 rivals, NC leader to quit party | | | early times report jammu, Feb 9: In a major setback for the National Conference, a senior leader of the party is likely to quit the NC soon. Sources said the said leader from north Kashmir, who was previously a loyalist of the Peoples Democratic Party, had been staying away from the activities of the NC for quite some time. Sources said atleast two regional parties have approached the said leader with an offer to join their respective parties. Sources said one the parties has already held informal talks with the said leader and have assured him of a "good position in their party." "While the decision on which of the two parties he may join is not clear as yet, but one thing is clear that he will quit his present party soon," said a source privy to the developments. The said leader had given up attending political meetings of the NC since the day special status of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated on August 5, 2019. Interestingly, it will be the first senior leader of the NC quitting the party since the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, a hint that the so called "grand old party has started to crumble." Sources said NC is already upset with the conduct of the said leader and looks ahead to expel him from the party before he tenders resignation. "He(said leader) is confused over charges of corruption against him and the property he has amassed in the last few years, so he wants to play his next move very smartly," said a source privy to the developments. The said leader who started his career from the PDP had left the party after the collapse of the PDP led government in 2018 and had subsequently joined the NC. Despite repeated attempts the said leader was not available for comments. |
