JAMMU, Feb 9: A ten days training programme on “Advances in the Management of Common Livestock Diseases in Dairy Animals” organized by the Division of Veterinary Medicine concluded at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, R.S. Pura Campus, Jammu. Dr J. P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr J. P Sharma informed that with the rise in average income, a fast-growing urban population, and the increasing integration of global agri-food markets the demand for animal food products is increasing. This implies tremendous potential for future growth of livestock sector and significant income opportunities for livestock owners, especially smallholders. He stressed upon the need to improve livestock management, nutrition, breeding and health. Dr Sharma highlighted nutrients supply from soil to plant and then to animals and this relationship is important for wellbeing of human health. Dr M. S Bhadwal, Dean, FVSc&AH informed that to meet the emerging challenges to livestock production and enhance the productivity of our livestock an effective coordination must be maintained between university and line department. He impressed upon the need for implementation of research work in the field. Dr Rajiv Singh, Course Director and Professor & Head, Division of Veterinary Medicine formally welcomed the delegates and highlighted the topics covered during the training. Doctors/ officers from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty members and students participated in the training programme. Dr Neelesh Sharma Asstt.
