EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 10: A delegation of JKPCC Piece Workers & Contractors Association under the banner of Joint Front UT of J&K, met MD of the J&K Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC), Vikas Kundal for immediate release of the payments for all the completed and ongoing projects in the entire J&K. The delegation of Contractors Association of JKPCC Joint Front UT of J&K led by Rakesh Jalali, President Jammu Province and that of Kashmir by its president Abdul Salam informed the MD, JKPCC that huge amount of payments of contractors are held up for last several years, adding that the total liability of the contractors is roughly more than Rs 50 crore or even more. The e- tendering was initiated more than two years back by JKPCC in earstwhile J&K state, since then the liability graph rose to the peak, resulting into deep crises of all the contractors, hence crippled badly their business transactions by paying hefty sums as a bank interest, the delegation said. Both the provincial presidents said that there are various reasons for the mall functioning of JKPCC. They said that projects are delayed mainly because of non-availability of funds with all the DGMs of concerned units/divisions or too much of time delay in transfer of funds from Head office to all the respective units/divisions despite the fact funds are sufficiently available, with result the contractors fraternity receive a big jolt in terms of payment liability. Moreover, JKPCC Ltd; has also started floating the composite tenders of the buildings/Projects thus hitting badly the livelihood of some 2500 small piece workers/Contractors, who have Contributed towards the Construction activity of JKPCC since its inception some 55 years back. |
