Rumblings within PAGD constituents come to fore as Muzaffar Shah takes on Dr Farooq Abdullah | Removal of NC President as CM in 1984 becomes bone of contention between nephew, maternal uncle | | jehangir rashid early times report SRINAGAR, Feb 10: Differences between constituents of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) came out in open today after senior Vice President of Awami National Conference (ANC) Muzaffar Shah launched a scathing attack on his maternal uncle and National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Addressing a press conference here, Muzaffar took pot shots at Dr. Farooq for his statement in Lok Sabha on Tuesday in which he had claimed that his government was toppled in 1984 due to horse trading with the main player being Ghulam Mohammad Shah, father of Muzaffar. While Dr. Farooq was removed as chief minister of erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir, Ghulam Mohammad Shah took over as the head of the government at that time. Dr. Farooq while delivering a speech in Lok Sabha claimed that money was used to buy the legislators of the rebel group of National Conference following which Ghulam Mohammad Shah formed the government with the help of Congress. Muzaffar said that allegations of Dr. Farooq are unfounded and there is no truth in the same. He said that no money was given to the rebel group of legislators of NC that led to the formation of government led by his father. He said the NC President had opined that many of the NC legislators as thieves and that the cabinet led by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a cabinet of thieves. "My father refused to give berths to two Congress leaders in the government even though then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi asked for the same. If the cabinet consisted of thieves then how could you induct them in the government later on? It means that you were unable to handle the things and keep the flock together," said ANC senior Vice President. Muzaffar asked his uncle to come out with the proof following allegations that Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 14 lakhs were paid to the legislators to switch sides so that Ghulam Mohammad Shah could form the government. He said the names of people who took money should be made public so that the picture is crystal clear before the common masses. The ANC senior Vice President also took exception to the statement of NC spokesman and said that NC spokesman is a novice and does not know about the correct spelling of National Conference. The PAGD has already received a setback with the Sajad Gani Lone led Peoples Conference (PC) backing out of the conglomerate following accusations between the PC and other constituents of PAGD over the meeting of a PC leader with Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari. |
