EARLY TIMES REPORT
BARAMULLA, Feb 13: Safeena Baigh was elected as chairperson and PC candidate Sonaullah Parray as VC in DDC Baramulla, while PAGD candidates won both the top posts in Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
Independent candidate Safeena, wife of former deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baigh was elected chairperson. Safeena was supported by People's Conference led by Sajjad Gani Lone, the party which contested the elections as part of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).
Safeena had contested the elections as an independent candidate. Safeena defeated PDP candidate advocate Qurat Bashir for the post. While Safeena got 10 votes, Qurat got four votes. The election for the post of vice-chairperson went down to the wire with the winner from People's Conference ultimately decided through a draw of lots. The PC candidate Sanullah Parray as well as independent candidate Irfan Hafiz Lone got seven votes each. The tie between the two prompted the election authorities to go for the draw of lots and Parray emerged victorious.
Meanwhile in Bandipora district, the PAGD bagged the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of District Development Council (DDC). National Conference's Abdul Gani Bhat was elected as chairperson while PDP's Kousar Shafeeq was elected as Vice-Chairperson.
