Jammu-Srinagar road closed, passengers stranded at bus stand | Social-distancing norms being violated, administration in deep slumber | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 24: In the absence of arrangements by the local administration, hundreds of Kashmir bound stranded passengers at General Bus Stand Jammu are forced to violate social-distancing norms. Amid spike in COVID cases in J&K like other parts of the country, the Jammu Bus Stand is likely to turn into a containment zone as hundreds of passengers camping there for last three days, as traffic on Jammu-Srinagar road has been stopped due to land-slides at many places along with national highway. Team Early Times this afternoon, visited stranded passengers at Bus Stand Jammu, where people were seen violating social-distancing norms. Blaming the passengers for not obeying social-distancing norms would be wrong, as the administration has not taken action in this regard. “We know that the number of COVID-19 cases is once again on rise but we cannot afford to stay in hotels. It is the responsibility of local administration to deal with such situation”, a group of Bihari labourers, going to Kashmir. Not only labourers from outside the J&K stationed at Bus-stand, but many Kashmiri families, who came here and now returning back are among the stranded passengers. “In Srinagar city people are being penalized for not wearing a face mask, but in Jammu administration seem unbothered, however, we have covered our month and nose with a mask, but violation of social distancing norms can lead an uncontrolled chain reaction”, they said. The stranded passengers at Bus Stand Jammu have sought Lt. Guv Manoj Sinha’s attention toward this issue. |
