Non-Covid Patients Can’t Be Left In Lurch
4/13/2021 11:38:14 PM
As the COVID-19 cases are on rise in Jammu and Kashmir, doctors seem worried about the situation that could emerge when the ongoing second COVID wave reaches the peak.
Many hospitals have been once again designated as Covid care centers. Isolation facilities are back and testing has been intensified.
The number of patients being admitted into the hospitals is increasing and the medicos have already sounded an alert that health facilities may turn full in coming days.
The administration has been claiming that adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure that situation remains under control but the growing corona cases have already started testing the health infrastructure in the union territory. According to recent studies the second COVID wave is spreading faster than the first wave, but there is a consolation that the death rate is not that high. The experts are asking people to follow the basic COVID sops like maintaining social distance, wearing masks and use of sanitizers. Besides they are also urging people to get vaccinated. Experts firmly believe that the COVID can only be fought by developing herd immunity and it can’t be developed till the large part of the population takes COVID-19 jabs. Another factor that has sent the alarm bells ringing is that like last year hospitals are being designated as COVID care centers and the patients suffering due to other ailments are being asked to wait.
During the first COVID wave the hospitals getting closed for the non-Covid patients had increased their hardships manifolds. The authorities should find a way out to help the non-COVID patients, if they are left unattended it can multiply their woes.
Living with the COVID-19 has become a new norm. We have to fight it out rather than running away from it. The pestilence has wreaked havoc during the past more than a year. It has once again risen its ugly head. We have to exercise caution but along with that authorities have to ensure that ailing people don’t end up losing their lives due to them not getting the treatment and care they need.
People of Jammu during the first Covid wave had led from the front by following the Sops. This time they would have to once again set an example to fight the present COVID wave. Fingers are crossed again but people have already donned the fighting gear.
