Water Sports Academy for Srinagar, only promises for Basohli lake ! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 13: While the Water Sports Academy was inaugurated at Srinagar to provide world class infrastructure to players of the Valley, promise to provide similar facilities at Ranjit Sagar Dam in Basohli is yet to be fulfilled. Successive governments have promised to provide world-class water sports facilities at Ranjit Sagar Dam but nothing concrete has been done so far. Instead of treating all regions and sub-regions of J&K equally, authorities at the helm of the affairs are still pursuing discriminatory policies to deprive Jammu region of its genuine rights. On April 10, Union Minister of State for Sports, Kiran Rijiju came all the way from Delhi to inaugurate Water Sports Academy at Nehru Park Srinagar to provide world class facilities. Like Kashmir Valley, Jammu region is also blessed with a number of water bodies but due to discriminatory policies of the successive governments this region remained ignored. First time in the history training of Indian water sports teams- which are going to represent the country in the coming Olympic Games, was held in Dal Lake of Kashmir. During the last two years water sports centres in Valley are equipped with world class equipment. Lake of the Ranjit Sagar Dam has potential to be a world class centre for water sports but due to lack of vision among political leadership and discriminatory policies of bureaucracy this spot remained neglected. Similarly Doda, Ramban and Reasi districts have potential of water rafting or water sports but these regions are also ignored by those at the helm of the affairs. |
