Open violation of COVID SOPs being committed in Poonch | Overcrowding in passenger vehicles posing threat of spreading virus | | RAJESH TANDON
EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, Apr 13: When the entire J&K Union Territory has been experiencing a sudden spike in COVID cases every day, the Poonch district is witnessing serious and open violations of COVID SOPs. Overcrowding in commercial passenger vehicles has posed serious threat but the concerned authority seems least bothered to take action against such violations. Sources told Early Times that the passenger vehicles have been carrying passengers beyond capacity and that too without wearing masks. There is no check on this violation, which has become a reason for increase in COVID positive cases. “A Tavera vehicle has been seen carrying 8-9 passengers despite the fact that only 4 passengers are allowed and it has also been observed that many passengers are not wearing masks while the concerned authorities overlook these violations,” they alleged. They said that massive COVID testing should be done of the passengers travelling in these commercial vehicles. Although the government has been taking several measures but the enforcement agencies are not implementing the same on the ground. The vehicles which travel from Rajouri to Mendhar can be seen plying with gross violation as there is no social distancing is witnessed. When Early Times contacted District Nodal Officer Poonch, he said that they have continuously been conducting tests. “Around 9 persons were found positive in the tests which were conducted today, one of them died. Till date a total of 2596 people have been detected positive and 97% have recovered,” he informed. As far as violation in passenger vehicles is concerned, Traffic and other enforcement agencies are responsible for ensuring implementation of SOPs, he added. |
