Recovery of Rs 50 crore narcotics exposes terror-drug mafia nexus | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 14: Recovery of narcotics worth Rs 50 crores from a forest of Kupwara district of North Kashmir has substantiated argument of the police that 'narco-terrorism module' is working overtime to ensure flow of funds to terror groups through drug mafia. On April 8, police had also recovered heroin worth Rs 60 crores from a forest following authenticated information. One Mukhtar AhmadShah, a resident of Panjitara in Tanghdar was arrested in this regard, leading to recovery of nine-kilograms of heroin with estimated market value of the contraband is somewhere between 58-60crores. Police had claimed that the arrested person is associated with some terrorists. According to police the identified smuggler has been in contact with handlers across the borders and all those modules and smugglers are involved in supporting the terror organizations. Last week, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar has confirmed that terror groups were receiving funds through drug smuggling as their handlers sitting across the border were indulged into smuggling narcotics through Line of Control (LoC), International Border (IB) and even through Nepal border. He said that the drug mafia with the connivance of terror groups was spoiling the future of the younger generation of Kashmir Valley. Senior police officers have number of times admitted that anti-national forces were "utilizing" money earned through drug smuggling to survive terrorism as part of the nefarious designs of neighbouring country. |
