Cornered Mehbooba looks towards Delhi | | | Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president and former J&K chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, recently stated that “gun is no solution” and the Kashmiri militants should shun the weapons. It’s strange that the leader, who used to leave no opportunity, to act as spokesperson of militants, and used to claim that peace in Kashmir cannot prevail till Pakistan, separatists and militants are roped in, has suddenly realized that the gun won’t help anyone. After being released from detention last year, Mehbooba Mufti has not a missed a single chance to instigate the people to oppose the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370. Obliquely Mehbooba on many occasions supported the separatists, who have been preaching violence for the past three decades. It seems that the PDP chief has realized that she is in a big mess as the investigating agencies have found many leads that have linked her party to terror funding case. In the recent past, Mehbooba was questioned by the sleuths of Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case. She was asked to provide the details of the CM’s secret fund that she had spent during her tenure as head of the erstwhile J&K State. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a charge sheet filed against a PDP youth leader Waheed Para has alleged that he (Parra) gave Rs 5 crore to Hurriyat leaders in 2016 after the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani to keep the pot boiling in the Valley. Mehbooba at present stands cornered from every side and it appears that she has realized that tough posturing won’t help her cause and New Delhi only can save her. Soon after Mehbooba was set free last year she had stated that she won’t lift the tricolor till J&K gets its state flag back. Once she said that she cannot understand Hindi and reporters should ask questions to her in a language she understands. Since the day Mehbooba has been released from detention she has made every attempt to pick up the holes and convey to the people that Kashmir is a problem and she is out to fight for them. But masses are in no mood to get misled or hoodwinked. They know it very well that Kashmir centric leaders are very good actors and they can stage any kind of drama whenever the need arises. |
