PM Modi's meetings with foreign dignitaries on hold in wake of Covid-19 situation | | | New Delhi April 15 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to reduce his in-person interactions with foreign delegations and dignitaries in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases in India and across the world.
On Wednesday, a French foreign minister was scheduled to call on PM Modi during his official visit to India, but the meeting was cancelled citing the Covid-19 situation as the reason, sources told India Today.
Sources said PM Modi will be focussing on Covid related meetings in the coming days and therefore, he will not entertain any foreign guests.
Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid is scheduled to arrive in India for the Raisina dialogue and he might also not be able to meet PM Modi.
"I am told that PM Modi has called off all such meetings over the next few days since he has to focus on Covid related meetings. Therefore, the meeting with Maldives foreign minister also unlikely," a source said.
Many dignitaries, who were to attend the Ministry of External Affairs' Raisina Dialogue, had cancelled their visits with the event now being held virtually.
Besides, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is scheduled to visit India for the annual summit and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will also arrive here this month-end.
While there is no confirmation on whether Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's visit is on as per schedule, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reduced the length of his trip to India later this month because of the Covid-19 situation in the country, Reuters cited Boris Johnson's spokesman said saying. |
