Ghaziabad Referral Food Testing Laboratory declares ‘VIP Mustard oil’ unsafe, substandard | JK Food Safety Department keeps it ‘top secret’! | | Saahil Suhail
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 30: The Ghaziabad based Referral Food Testing Laboratory has declared ‘VIP Mustard oil’ unsafe, substandard and misbranded months after it is reportedly declared safe by Food Safety’s Srinagar Laboratory. In its report, the Referral Food Laboratory Ghaziabad- UP, states that the sample of ‘Mustard oil VIP’ doesn’t conform to the standards laid down under Regulations No. 2.2.1 (7) of FSS (Food Product Standards and Food Additives, 2011, as the sample shows Saponification value below the minimum prescribed limit. The report [certificate No. 43/Feb/21-JK] further states that acid value, belier Test and Uric Acid (as % of total Fatty Acid) above the maximum prescribed limit. “This Sample is thus substandard under section 3(1) (zx), unsafe under section 3(1) (zz) (iv) (xi) and misbranded under section 3(1) (zf) (B) (i) (ii) of FSS Act 2006,” the report issued on 17th of February this year. However, surprisingly the Food Safety department kept this report a top secret and didn’t make the report public. Sources revealed that the sample was lifted from Shopain district of South Kashmir few months ago. They revealed that after Food Safety’s Srinagar Laboratory declared the edible oil product safe for consumption that officer posted in Shopian sent the sample to Ghaziabad for further testing which later declared it unsafe and substandard. Repeated attempts to contact Food Safety Officer Shopian over phone failed he didn’t answer repeated calls and later switched off his phone. |
