Early Times Report

Jammu, May 9: The Union Territory (UT) J&K is showing more consumption, including wastage, than the vaccine supplied by the Union Health Ministry for three phases of vaccination drive.
As per the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, 26,81,840 doses of vaccine were supplied to J&K out of which the UT has consumed 27,11,409 including wastage. As per this figure, the J&K is showing a negative balance of 29,569 doses.
However, Union Health Ministry clarified that states, with a negative balance, are showing more consumption (including wastage) than vaccine supplied as they have not reconciled the vaccine they have supplied to Armed Forces.
Union Health Ministry has assured that within three days 84,700 additional doses will be supplied to J&K within a day or two to intensify the vaccination drive.
J&K is first among all states and Union Territories to launch vaccination drive. Unlike other states and UTs, third, the phase of vaccination for the age group of 18 to 45 years was started in J&K on May 1.
Not only J&K, states of Kerala, Rajasthan and West Bengal are also showing a negative balance as these states also have not reconciled the vaccine they have supplied to the Armed Forces.
The Union Government has so far provided more than 17.56 crore vaccine doses (17,56,20,810) to States/UTs free of Cost. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 16,83,78,796 doses.
More than 72 lakh COVID vaccine doses (72,42,014) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered. Furthermore, more than 46 lakh (46,61,960) vaccine doses will be received in addition by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.
