Obstacle in online teaching | | | shyam sudan
Due to complete lockdown like situation in the country the functioning of all education institutions has been effected at great extent . There is no provision of any formal education for the knowledge seekers in any institution in the country. Last year due to this pandemic and lockdown like situation students got the mass promotion in their respective class.Although that was not a good option for them. However education department has started a unique and innovative process of online teaching and digital education in the entire nation once again . No doubt digital education is a very praiseworthy ,exemplary and latest method of teaching in this digital era. It covers millions of students across the country with various kinds of digital mode of learning. But for our country which is in developing stage still ,needed lot of reforms in this direction before the execution of such mode of teaching. There are lot of pros and cons in this system in our country. Still we are not fully prepare for such kind of teaching in our schools and country.Especially our government aided schools are not in a comfortable position to start this mode of teaching due to poor background of our students in these schools. For digital education and online classes there is need of proper and high quality internet facility. Also the various kinds of sophisticated devices like laptop, computer, smart labs, Android phones etc are needed for this process. However various online courses like Byjus are giving services in this direction. But the registration fee for these courses is beyond the affordability of millions of poor students across the country. Moreover,Unavailability of these sophisticated devices and poor internet connectivity are the main hurdles in this mode of teaching. Mostly in government schools we have students of very poor background and families. They could not afford such kind of sophisticated devices due to meagre income of their parents and families. Also mostly they are fourth generation learners I.e there is no one in these families to guide and encourage such children for this kind of teaching. These parent are not accustomed with such kind of knowledge orientated programme and can’t give proper guidance to their children. These families and their children are mostly dependent on various kinds of freebies policies of the government. They are the beneficiaries of free textbooks, uniforms, scholarships, MDM etc. It is very difficult for such families to purchase such kind of costly devices for online teaching and learning. Also these students are mostly hesitant and shy in nature and can’t express themselves in a very lucid way at such platform of online classes. Also due to poor internet connectivity in various inaccessible regions of the country these students could not get the proper benefits of such kind of teaching I.e online classes. Especially for students of lower classes such kind of teaching has very antagonistic impact on their eyesight due to excessive use of these digital devices.Gradually they become addicted to such devices .They even exploit their poor parents for purchasing of these costly devices. Moreover, the method of online teaching is not very helpful for children with special needs( CWSN).There is need of individual attention to these students in general classroom which is not possible in online mode of teaching. Pupil teacher interaction is also very poor and unhealthy in this mode of teaching. Another drawback of such mode of teaching is lack of trained teaching faculity. All the teachers are not habitual and expert in delivering their lecture through this mode of teaching. They usually habitual of routine method of class room teachings. There is need of special training programmes for teachers to become perfect in this new way of teaching. Even some teachers are not capable to run this kind of teaching in a comfortable way. However this mode of teaching I. e online classes can be helpful for higher classes at some extent. Because in that stage students become aware and fully prepare for such kind of teaching. They easily accept such kind of teaching due to their active participation and interests. But in lower classes it is an extra burden on parents to implement such programme of teaching. For a short time of span it can be a soft alternative but in long run this mode of teaching is not very fruitful for students. In a well furnished ICT lab we can implement this mode of teaching. We can achieve the target of literacy through this method but we can not educate a child by this digital way.in general classrooms teaching we can properly judge the strength and weaknesses of students and can suggest an immediate solution. But in online method of teaching we can only focus on our preplanned lesson content not in other things. In future this method can be used to impart teaching to the doorstep of the students but can’t fully replace the live classrooms method of teaching. However in Kashmir division govt has decided to distribute 2500 computer tab for this learning process but in jammu region students could not get the benefit of such kind of scheme. The programme of online teaching has been started in both the division of jammu and Kashmir. But the number of active participant students are very few.large percentage of students are still in their homes without any formal and informal benefit of teaching process .For those students who couldn’t ready for online teaching due to one or other reasons we can start the programme of community classes. But as we know due to covid surge it is very difficult to run the community classes at present moment. Until the situation get better, the children will have to motivate themselves to study. |
