Ventilators, other equipment lying defunct at DH Kishtwar due to staff shortage

KISHTWAR, May 11: At a time when the whole country is battling to fight the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the ventilators, ICU beds, Cardiac monitors are lying defunct at District Hospital (DH) Kishtwar due to lack of medical staff in the hospital.
According to reliable information, 16 ventilators, 20 ICU beds, 34 Cardiac monitors, 2 Defibrillator and other medical equipments are lying defunct in District Hospital Kishtwar due to lack of manpower as result of which the people suffering from critical COVID 19 complications could not be properly attended at Kishtwar hospital and was forced shift to Jammu or Srinagar Medical Colleges which are already over burdened with the COVID 19 patients. Speaking to Early Times, the official sources said that District Hospital Kishtwar received ventilators, ICU beds, Cardiac Monitors and other items out of PM care funds last year added that since then they are lying in hospital stores unused due to lack of manpower.
The sources said that despite repeated requests, the higher authorities had failed to provide staff and other logistic support to make these ventilators functional.
He said that the lack of oxygen plant at District Hospital Kishtwar could be the other reasons for non functional of these ventilators.
A senior official in the district administration told the Early Times that a formal request has been placed before the higher authorities beside the case was also presented to the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Department during a recently held meeting.
He said that they are hopeful that they will be able to make these ventilators and other accessories functional shortly.
