Early Times Report

Anantnag, May 12: For remaining dysfunctional for several months, the authorities at Government Medical College Anantnag have made the ventilators functional and augmented the bed capacity in COVID-19 ward.
The positive developments took place a day after Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Ghulam Hassan Sheikh conducted a detailed tour of the hospital.
Reports said that ADC Anantnag Ghulam Hassan Sheikh (KAS), who also heads the recently constituted Oxygen Audit Committee, directed authorities to augment the facilities including bed capacity in COVID-19 ward. “He also directed the hospital administration to make ventilators functional and rationalize the workforce,” an official said. He however wished not be named as he isn’t authorized to speak on hospital administrative matters.
The number of COVID-19 beds has been increased to 100 at GMC Anantnag among which around 60 beds are oxygenated beds and rest of the beds require the support of medical oxygen cylinders.
The officer also informed that ADC Anantnag took strong note of the absence of few doctors and accordingly GMC Anantnag officials were conveyed to put all faculty members on work.
ADC Anantnag along with other officials of MED Department and GMC Anantnag conducted audit of Oxygen Supplies and called for judicious use of medical oxygen supply.
It is important to mention here that earlier the engineers of MED department under the supervision of ADC Anantnag worked overnight to make 1000 LPM Oxygen plant functional following which GMC Anantnag claimed that there was no shortage of oxygen supplies.
Meanwhile, officials said that the Government was soon going to convert GMC Anantnag into COVID-19 Hospital as the flow of infected patients was increasing.
“The flow of patients is certainly increasing, however we have made enough arrangements,” Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag Dr Murtaza Fazal Ali told Early Times over phone.
He said that they also augmented facilities besides increased bed space in COVID-19 ward.
